Professor Anthony George Rudd

Qualifications: MA(Cantab) 1975, Cambridge University, MB, BChir 1978, FRCP(Lond) 1994.

He was rewarded CBE on Queen’s Birthday 2013, and Hon MFPH 2015.

He was appointed a consultant in 1988, GSTT where he started to lead the best stroke care in UK.

He has focused on stroke care, reorganising stroke unit and pre-hospital care etc. in the past 30 years. He was appointed as London Stroke Clinical Director in 2009, then National Clinical director in Stroke since 2013, advise on clinical guidelines, care quality standard. He was a chairman, NICE Guidelines Development Group for Acute Stroke and TIA 2006-2008. He was appointed a Professor  King’s College London in 2010.

Research

Over the last 22 years He has provided the clinical leadership to a multi-disciplinary research team to address clinical, epidemiological and health service research questions in stroke. The programme has had funding from among others the MRC, Wellcome Trust, ESRC, Department of Health, NHS R&D, European Union, the Stroke Association and currently has 25 researchers in the group with Professor Charles Wolfe providing the epidemiology leadership. Over the last 5 years Prof Rudd and the stroke research group at Kings have received over £5m in grant funding. He has been specifically responsible for developing and leading research in the areas of rehabilitation and organisation of stroke care. He also initiated and run the Stroke Programme in the Clinical Standards Department at the Royal College of Physicians, where over the last 20 years he has developed methodology for national audit and other service improvement techniques.
