Prof Jalan is a clinician with a strong focus on translational research. He was amongst the first to recognize the existence of acute on chronic liver failure (ACLF) as a new clinical entity. His main interest is in understanding the molecular pathogenesis of ACLF and developing new therapies for this syndrome. His work has led to the discovery of ornithine phenylacetate for the treatment of hepatic encephalopathy, CARBALIVE for patients with cirrhosis and, TLR4 antagonists and DIALIVE for the treatment of ACLF. He is coordinating a Global Study evaluating the role of liver transplantation for ACLF.
His research has led to successful publications of 443 papers and his H-Index is 93.
