Dr. Shaorong Gao is currently a Distinguished Professor and Dean of the School of Life Sciences and Technology of Tongji University, and Director of the Frontier Science Center of Cell Stem and Fate Editing, Ministry of Education, China. He is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a recipient of the National Outstanding Youth Science Foundation, a Distinguished Professor of the Ministry of Education of China, and an academic leader of the Innovation Group of the China Foundation for Science and Technology. Prof. Shaorong Gao insists on carrying out scientific research on people's health issues, focusing on the epigenetic regulatory mechanism of embryonic development and cell reprogramming as the world's frontiers, and constantly exploring the development mode of basic research and achievement transformation, and has achieved a series of innovative research results. He has also received the first prize of the Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education, the Zhou Guangzhao Foundation Outstanding Young Scientist Award in Basic Science, the Tan Jiazhen Prize for Innovation in Life Science, and the Outstanding Achievement Award of the Chinese Society of Cell Biology.

        Dr. Gao received his Ph.D. degree from the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the U.S. and the U.K. from 1998 to 2005, and then served as a researcher and senior researcher at the Institute of Life Sciences in Beijing, and has been a Distinguished Professor at Tongji University since 2013. Dr. Gao is one of the first two laboratories in the world to demonstrate the true pluripotency of induced pluripotent stem cells, i.e., iPS cells, and his research has been selected as one of the world's top ten medical breakthroughs and one of China's top ten advances in life sciences. He has published more than 170 papers in international authoritative academic journals, including Nature, Science, Nature Genetics, Cell Stem Cell, Nature Cell Biology, etc. He has been cited more than 7,000 times, and served as a member of the advisory board of Cell Stem Cell, an authoritative international journal, and other internationally renowned academic journals, such as the editorial board.
