CNKI, starting from the CD edition electronic journals publishing project launched by Tsinghua University in 1996, is the largest knowledge and information resources platform in China. For over 20 years, CNKI has taken the construction of China National Knowledge Infrastructure as the general goal and established China Integrated Knowledge Resources Database through extensive integrated publishing.   Featuring academic research results and integrating over 90% of China knowledge, it is a national knowledge resources system with a complete coverage of journals, doctoral dissertations & masters’ theses, newspapers, conference proceedings, yearbooks, reference books, encyclopaedia, patents, standards, scientific achievements, laws and regulations, etc. Besides, it has also established a digital dissemination network with over 900 international publishers and created the world’s first “Chinese and Foreign Languages Resource Database” where the content is deeply integrated and published synchronously with the original literature. At present, the platform has served more than 30,000 institutions worldwide and provided them with knowledge service and knowledge management service.

CNKI has been dedicated to disseminating the latest China research results to overseas users in an international way. At present, it has over 1,600 institutional users in more than 70 countries and regions. The scholars from over 76% of TOP500 universities read Chinese academic resources on CNKI platform everyday; among the G20 member countries, 80% of the countries have national or major research institutions which frequently access Chinese academic journals from CNKI. CNKI has become an essential tool for global universities, governmental think tanks and research institutions to understand and study China. It also provides the scholars from China and other countries an effective platform for knowledge production, exchange,dissemination and sharing.

CNKI attaches great importance to knowledge service for medical and health industry, and established the Medical and Health Department in 2001. It supports institutions including National Health Commission, National Healthcare Security Administration, worldwide medical administrations and research institutions,, Chinese hospitals at all levels as well as overseas hospitals, centers for disease control and prevention, and global pharmaceutical enterprises to build institutional knowledge infrastructures. It also assists government decision-making, medical talents nurturing, clinical research work and medical information exchange among different countries.        For institutions in medical and health industry, CNKI first launched “China Hospital Knowledge Database” (CHKD), a professional platform based on Medical Subject Headings of Classification Code Intelligent Retrieval System (MCI), having achieved many breakthroughs in user interaction, retrieval and matching function, etc. With the rapid development of big data and AI technologies in recent years, CNKI has developed a series of medical big data and AI products and services such as Clinical Decision-making Support System (CDSS), Clinical Diagnosis Knowledge Database, Hospital R&D Big Data Platform, which have been widely put into use and received favorable comments from users..
